Acquisitions

CWT acquires decreed water rights through voluntary transactions to provide instream flows that benefit aquatic ecosystems.  Transactions succeed because they are collaborative and everyone wins, from the community that benefits from increased streamflows to the water user that has been compensated for his water rights to the CWCB which gains a heartier, more diversified instream flow program.  To acquire water, CWT works in coordination with the agricultural community, other water users, governmental entities, land trusts, watershed groups, and other non-profit conservation organizations.  CWT also works closely with the Colorado Water Conservation Board, the only entity authorized by law to hold instream flow rights.
