Colorado Gives Day

December 07, 2011

First and foremost, we’d like to thank everyone who donated to the Colorado Water Trust on Colorado Gives Day!  Your support reminds us that we’re working hard to restore streamflows across our beautiful state for you and for everyone.  Thank you for supporting our work and for making our first Colorado Gives Day one to remember.

Colorado Gives Day was a huge success this year with an initial estimate of $12 million donated to non-profit organizations in Colorado.  While the fundraising drive was very successful, there were issues with the Colorado Gives Day website off and on throughout the day.  These technical difficulties prompted the Community First Foundation to extend Colorado Gives Day for 12 additional hours.

Some people were unable to access the Giving First website while others experienced long wait times as their charitable transactions processed.  And some transactions floated off into the night without a trace (well, without a definitive confirmation of success or failure).  Our own staff attorney, Zach Smith, made one such “phantom donation” that has been waylaid somewhere out in cyber space.  Do you find yourself in a similar situation?  Giving First issued a press release with the following instructions so you can begin to make heads or tails of that “pending” transaction on your credit card bill:

“An email box has been set up so if a donor did not receive an email confirmation receipt of his or her gift, he or she can submit last name, approximate time of the donation, the amount, the method of donation (credit card or e-check) and the nonprofit donated to. Donors can send emails to: verifiedgift@communityfirstfoundation.org.”

Thanks again for your donation, received or attempted!  We look forward to using these funds to put water back into Colorado’s rivers and streams.
