Conservation Easement Model Language Revisions Available

August 18, 2011

In 2009, we were awarded funding from GOCO to revise the Colorado Water Trust’s water rights model language, which is suggested language to be included in a conservation easement to assist in protecting water rights when they are essential to the land’s conservation values. The original model language was created in 2002. With the grant award from GOCO, we researched the use of the existing model language and solicited changes that experts in land conservation thought were necessary to update the language, changes to ensure the new language address new issues in land conservation practices and changes in the law.  We are pleased to announce that the revisions to the Model Conservation Easement Language are now complete.  The updated language appears in the new 2nd edition of the Water Rights Handbook for Conservation Professionals released earlier this year. You can also find it on our website.
