Fellowship Honoring David Harrison

January 14, 2011

Colorado Water Trust Board Member, David Harrison, is not only a founding member of this organziation but has also made remarkable contributions to water law and policy in Colorado, nationally and internationally.

He recently retired from the active practice of law with the firm Moses, Wittemyer, Harrison, and Woodruff, P.C., but during his career dedicated his energy and creative thinking to sustainability in water development and protection of freshwater sources and ecosystems around the world. In retirement, David will continue to advance his passion through his role as consultant to The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) freshwater community.

In recognition of David’s accomplishments and in support of his continuing work, the partners of Moses, Wittemyer, Harrison, and Woodruff, P.C., the Natural Resources Law Center at the University of Colorado Law School, and TNC have initiated the Innovations in Water Law and Policy Fellowship.

The goal of the Fellowship partners is to raise $150,000 for an endowment which would initially disburse approximately $6,000 a year for the fellowship.

When fully endowed, the fellowship will provide CU law students an opportunity to devote a summer to an international project proposed by TNC. The projects will focus on freshwater ecological health, hydropower planning and similar water resources issues. Students who are selected to participate in the program will be chosen on the basis of academic performance, commitment to public service, and interest in water resources law and policy.

David has been a wealth of information and energy for this organization and the Harrison Fellowship is a fitting tribute to his life’s passion. If you are interested in adding your own tribute to David’s legacy, contributions may be made payable to the CU Foundation and sent to Marilyn Moses, Colorado Law Development Office, 401 UCB, Boulder, CO 80301-0401 or online at www.cufund.org/HarrisonFellowship.
