At the Colorado Water Trust’s May 2011 meeting of the Board of Directors, the Trust approved a Strategic Plan and an Action Plan, two documents that will serve as roadmaps for our future. As you may know, we received funding from the Walton Family Foundation to complete this plan and to begin its implementation. We are very grateful for this investment and are excited about where we are heading.
Although our Board and staff generated much of the substance of the Strategic Plan, the day began with, and was guided by, a review of how we are perceived by those with whom we work. Leni Wilsmann, who conducted these interviews on our behalf, consolidated the outreach into one clear and concise point: CWT’s proof-of-concept period has ended and it’s time for CWT to think bigger and work more strategically. We have taken that advice to heart.
What excites us most is that this process has already changed how we work. For example, we are vetting three “Showcase” projects for CWT to tackle. We hope that the completion of these projects will catalyze public appreciation for and investment in projects that improve streamflows across the state. In addition, we are committed to continuing our Physical Solutions and Technical Assistance programs. We are also developing the capacity to get more done in a shorter period of time with a greater impact. To accomplish these ambitious goals, we have hired Anne Janicki, a longtime staff member from the Colorado Water Conservation Board, and she will be with us for the foreseeable future. We are also in the process of hiring a Program Manager to further boost our capacity.
Thank you for allowing us to share our vision and excitement with you.
