Scott Hummer Joins Colorado Water Trust

September 21, 2011

We are thrilled to welcome Scott Hummer as CWT’s new Program Manager. Scott joins us from Summit County where he worked for many years as Water Commissioner for the Blue River Basin. As the Basin’s first full-time Water Commissioner, Scott oversaw the use and distribution of water in the basin. He worked closely with ranchers and other basin water users and enjoyed educating them and the local community on the importance of holding and maintaining water rights in one of Colorado’s most complex and contentious river basins. He fondly remembers early on introducing himself to local ranchers and their hired hands. At one ranch, the ranch manager took his card and patiently listened to his reasons for visiting. At the end of the speech, the manager politely handed back his card and said, “sounds like bulls*** to me” and walked away without a backward glance. It was clear that it might not be easy to fulfill his job duties. But he embraced the challenge and held the position for over 20 years.
In recognition of Scott’s many years of service in Summit County, Bob Berwyn of the Summit County Voice wrote, “(Scott) has been nothing less than a fountain of water knowledge.” We feel fortunate to now have his expertise and passion for water on our team. Although new to the office, Scott is not a stranger to Colorado Water Trust. He was instrumental in bringing together the parties for the Moser Project, CWT’s first water transaction. Welcome, Scott!
