New Technical Assistance Opportunities available
Colorado Water Trust has received funding from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) and the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) to expand our Technical Assistance Program. We now have two new opportunities for Colorado land trusts. Questions? Please contact: zsmith(at)coloradowatertrust.org.
- Assessment of Encumbered Water Rights. Land trusts have the opportunity to obtain a review of existing easements for an anaylsis of the organization’s encumbered water rights. In addition to a summary of encumbered water rights, a report will offer technical suggestions and solutions for handling water issues in the future.
Please download the application to apply. Applications due by March 24, 2010.
- Model Language Survey. In 2002, Colorado Water Trust released Model Conservation Easement Language for encumbering water rights. Much has changed in the last few years. To address these changes, CWT is seeking to engage the conservation community in updating the model language to make it more relevant and useful. We are asking for your help in completing a two-page survey to help us in the revision process. With broad participation, CWT hopes to recommend best practices and ensure important water rights remain with valuable conservation easements. Please return the requested information by April 10, 2010.
The Water Rights Handbook
To assist with water issues in the context of land conservation, the Colorado Water Trust has prepared the Water Rights Handbook for Conservation Professionals.

Assistance to Land Trusts
In addition to engaging in its own conservation activities, the Colorado Water Trust serves as a resource for land trusts with water issues that arise in connection with land conservation activities.
